# Study with the Tutor

> An agent that helps you learn from your materials: explanations, summaries and practice for your goals or assessments. With Biblioteca and Estudio, it keeps your sources and what each test covers.

The **Tutor** is an agent template for studying: a course, a class, an exam that's coming up or something you want to learn on your own. It explains, sums up your material and gives you practice, at your level and your pace. It doesn't do your work for you or invent quotes or sources: it helps you do it yourself.

## Create the Tutor

<Steps>
  <Step title="Pick the template">
    When you create an agent, choose **For me** or **For a group** (your study group, say) and tap **Tutor** (“Helps you learn from your materials: explanations, summaries and practice for your goals or assessments.”). See [Create an agent](/en/setup/create-an-agent).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Tell it what you're studying">
    In the first conversation it asks just enough to get started: what you want to learn and whether it's for a course or out of interest, your level and what's hardest for you, whether an assessment is coming (with its date and what it covers) and how you like to learn: summaries, practice questions, explanations from zero, diagrams.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add Biblioteca and Estudio">
    They aren't required, but without them the Tutor still teaches and doesn't keep your sources or your tests' scope. It suggests them and adds them with your OK, or you add them yourself from **Plugins**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Send it your materials">
    PDFs, documents, links, photos of your notebook. If your calendar is connected ([Google Calendar](/en/plugins/google-calendar)), it also sees your exam dates.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## What each piece does

| | What it keeps | What for |
| - | - | - |
| **Tutor** (the agent) | How you learn: what you already get, what's hard for you, how each practice went. | Explaining, summing up and giving you practice that fits you. |
| [**Biblioteca**](/en/plugins/biblioteca) | What your materials say, in a wiki with each fact tied to its page. | Answering with the source cited and showing conflicts. |
| [**Estudio**](/en/plugins/estudio) | Your courses, what each assessment covers and your attempts. | Practicing only what's covered and following your progress. |

Each plugin can be added on its own, also to an agent that isn't a Tutor.

## What you can ask it

* "Make me a study plan for the November 12 midterm."
* "Sum up this week's notes." (It sends you the summary as a file or a link you can open.)
* "Explain integration by parts from zero, with an example."
* "Give me practice questions on what we saw this week."
* "What does the final cover?"
* "Remind me of the assignment two days before it's due."

## How it works

* **It uses your material first**, and tells apart what your source says, what it deduces and what it looks up elsewhere. If it has nothing to back something up, it tells you.
* **It doesn't assume what a test covers**: it follows what you were told. A topic being in the book doesn't mean it's tested.
* **It checks before calling something done**: it redoes calculations, tries counterexamples and tells you what it verified and what's still pending.
* **It lets you think**: it gives hints before the answer, and asks you a question to see whether you got it.
* Your practice answers never become a source.

What it learns about how you study, you see on its **Memory** tab.
